Our FAQ section will hopefully answer most questions you have when it comes to new boiler installations, but if there is anything you are unsure of or would like to ask us then please feel free to get in touch.

How much will a new boiler cost?

As a rough guide a combination boiler swap will cost between £1900-£3500. A regular or conventional boiler swap would cost between £1600-£3100. An upgrade from a conventional to combi system costs between £2500-£4500. All these guide prices consider many factors. An accurate cost would be given after a site visit and formal quotation.

What type of boiler do I need?

There are three main types of gas boiler on the market right now.

The first one most people have is a combination boiler which delivers direct fired hot water.

The second is a conventional boiler which heats water in a hot water cylinder and has a separate cold-water tank in the loft and separate heating pump.

The third is a system boiler which also heats water in a hot water cylinder but on a sealed system with pump and expansion built into the boiler itself.

Do I need a powerflush?

Although a power flush is not mandatory recent changes to Part L of building regulations have introduced a minimum standard for heating system cleanliness which includes flushing the system and adding inhibitor to comply.

What are my payment options?

Do I need a filter on my system?

A filter is very much the norm now with quite a few boiler manufacturers including them as part of their packages with long warranties. They are great way of helping keep dirty heating water away from your boiler which does reduce breakdowns.

What warranty do I get with my new boiler?

Warranties or normally between the 5- and 12-year range and will differ depending on your budget and the manufacturer. The other factor is the installer, if he is accredited with a certain boiler company, he will be able to offer better warranties than non-accredited installers as he has had specialist training to work on those boilers.

What is Boiler plus?

Since boiler plus was introduced back in April 2018 a minimum standard of heating control is now required with any new boiler installation. A smart control is one of four options that are available to meet these regulations but is not the only option. Weather compensation controls and Load compensation controls are two more. The last one is what’s called a flue heat recovery system.

Do I need a smart control?

No is the honest answer to that question, smart just means internet enabled there are still many other options of controls available for compliance that meet minimum installation requirements.

What is included in your quotation?

Well, everything that you see on the quote, all the materials obviously. Taking out the old boiler, cylinders and tanks. Making good any areas that need attention. Removal of all rubbish. Explanation of how everything works. Registering all warranties and leaving all paperwork.

What is a boiler flue?

Your boiler flue is the most vital part of any boiler for both combustion and safety as it takes away the harmful fumes and draws in clean air for combustion to take place.

How long will the job take?

As a guide most boilers take between 1-4 days to install depending on the work involved, this will be clearly stated at the quotation stage.

Will I have heating and/or hot water during installation?

This will depend on the amount involved with the installation and would be stated at the quotation so any arrangements can be made for supplementary heating etc.

What is an unvented cylinder?

An unvented cylinder is a hot water storage tank that works off mains water pressure as to provide higher flow rates than a combi boiler where hot water usage is high.

What size boiler do I need?

That will be calculated during an initial site visit and will take into account heat loss calculations, water usage, pressure and flow to determine what options are available.

Do you install hydrogen boilers?

Yes. we have already installed boilers that are hydrogen compatible and will continue to do so as hydrogen is a very viable fuel option for domestic households.

How often should I service my boiler?

Although there is no legal requirement to service your gas boiler unless you are a landlord, it really should be done every year … and with boiler warranties requiring an annual service to maintain the warranty, it makes sense to get them checked.
